Water Treatment

FASAM offers a variety of technologies for oil fields water treatment as well as the expertise to determine the best solution for each application. Depending on the water characteristics, required treated water quality, and discharge requirements, our systems are custom-designed to meet the unique needs at each project site.

Produced Water Treatment

Produced water systems are typically designed in stages. These stages are primary treatment, secondary treatment, and Tertiary or polishing. Each stage has select equipment that specialize in the removal of oil and solids from the water. Our custom designed produced water treatment packages include our proprietary Deoiler Hydrocyclones and gas flotation technologies, as well as a range of filtration and Corrugated Plate Interceptor (CPI) technologies.
By our lab and pilot testing capabilities we can confirm design parameters that the system or process will perform as specified.

Typical stages of a produced water treatment system are as below diagram:

  • Secondary Treatment
  • Tertiary Treatment

Corrugated Plate Interceptors (CPI)

FASAM Corrugated Plate Interceptors (CPI) are designed for bulk removal of large oil and solids particles from water as a primary stage of water treatment and utilise plate packs as the main separation device. The plate packs are designed with specific spacing and alignment to allow solids to settle and fall to the bottom while simultaneously allowing oil drops to rise and coalesce, thereby reducing the oil and solids loading from the downstream water treatment train and smoothing out flow slugging.

Deoiling Hydrocyclones

FASAM’s proprietary CyLiner Deoiling Hydrocyclones are highly efficient in recovering oil from produced water and other process streams. Our special design of the Cy series of liners with dual inlets and a unique acceleration profile the high efficiency hydrocyclone liner has been shown to achieve separation performances of more than 99% and can handle inlet oil concentrations in excess of 20%.

Gas Flotation

Gas Flotation is a well-proven method of oil recovery in water treatment applications. FASAM supply a full range of gas flotation technology including hydraulic and mechanical multi-cell Induced Gas Flotation (IGF) units. Both technologies are reliable for purification of oily process water and industrial wastewater.

Nutshell Filter

Nutshell filters are utilized as tertiary water treatment systems, and have very good performance in removing oil and solids from produced water, refinery wastewater or any water source. Our nutshell filter design incorporates the best features of conventional dual-media filters and deep bed nutshell filters to achieve the best practical removal efficiency for both oil and solids in one filter. Depending on oil and solid concentration at inlet, our high efficiency NSF is capable of removing solids particles 2 microns and greater and less than 5 ppm Oil in Water.

Water Injection Systems

With our comprehensive experience and knowledge we are able to offer a complete range of technologies for water injection systems.

A seawater water injection system, usually, consists a number of sub-systems as shown in the below diagram:

Multi Media Filters

FASAM multi media filters are based on the downflow pressure filter technology and designed to remove solids to the high specifications required by water injection systems. FASAM designed systems can remove 98% or greater of suspended solids larger than two microns. Our multi media filters are used for fine filter applications using graded Anthracite and Garnet media supplied by FASAM.

For other applications, and depending on the required suspended solids removal efficiency, a combination of different graded media such as anthracite coal, silica sand, quartz sand, garnet, magnetite and other materials may be used as filtration media.

Deaeration Towers

FASAM offer designs for multistage Vacuum and Gas Strip Deaeration towers designed to reduce oxygen levels below 5ppb. We offer bespoke tower and vacuum package designs for a wide range of turndown which are optimised to minimise height and the effects of tower motion while maximising efficiency by using high efficiency mass transfer packing.
Our experience includes atmospheric and vacuum degasifiers for the CO2 and Oxygen removal units for process water and well injection as well as H2S and BTEx removal units for process waste streams.
